Popular local markets in Phnom Penh

Shopping in Phnom Penh is wonderful – the city’s stores and markets sell everything from handicrafts, and housewares to clothes, sportswear, souvenirs, foods, and all the products of daily use. It’s a good idea to shop in nearby markets like Russian Market (Toul Tom Poung Market), Central Market known as Psar Thmei (literally, “new market” in Khmer), Orussey Market, Boeng Keng Kang Market, Olympic Market which are very popular local markets for Cambodian people and foreigner to shop and buy what they need in their necessary stuff. 

Russian Market/ Tuol Tompoung Market

Normally, for the appropriate price of the handcraft and souvenirs, people usually find them at the Russian Market. Around outside of the market, a dozen stores sell brand and factory second apparel. The products they sell were created with the intention of being exported. They are known as export stores. Compared to the inside of the market, the price is substantially greater, but the environment is much more pleasant and the wheat has already been sorted from the chaff. Inside the market, there are so many food stalls. The special thing is that there is a lot of street food outside the market from 5 PM until midnight. Local people like to go there since the taste is good, and the price is affordable.

Central Market/ Phsar Thmei

Into the bargain, to get excellent deals on many types of clothes, DVDs, and cheap electronics, Central Market is the greatest place to find inexpensive electronics, jewelry, and souvenirs. Most Cambodians love to find Khmer traditional clothes and suits for men there. It also offers good street food in the daytime at appropriate prices.

Orussey Market

Olympic Market

Furthermore, Olympic Market is also a place for people who buy wholesale clothing for generations, especially women. The price is a bit expensive, but the quality is good with many choices to choose from.

Old Market/ Phsar Chas

One of the busiest marketplaces in the city is the Old Market which is known as (Phsar Chas). This market has everything, from fresh meat and fruits to motorcycle parts. Food and fruit vendors set out mats along Street 13 in the late afternoon and sit with their stock for the evening market. As a matter of fact, tourists will find Old Market (Phsar Chas) to be a traditional marketplace where they may explore and shop.

Boeng Keng Kang Market

Moreover, people who prefer second-hand products with the cheapest price, always go to find them at Boeng Keng Kang Market. This place is very popular with low-income and middle-income people. They sell a lot of the cheapest clothes such as jeans, pants, underwear, sportswear, and shoes as well. More than this, they also offer many delicious street foods inside the market in the daytime.

Night Market/Phsar Reatry

More than this, the primary entrance to the Phnom Penh Night Market, also known as Phsar Reatrey. The market is on the riverfront and is located between streets 106 and 108. Very busy on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting at 6 PM, when you may buy clothes, shoes, watches, jewelry, and a variety of other goods, though feel like these days this market is primarily about clothes for all ages. There is a large open area where you may sit and consume food from the vendors; the selection is wide and the fragrances are varied, but the food is virtually entirely Cambodian.
