Steps to obtain a Cambodian Driver’s License ( Foreigner )
- Step 1 : Gather the required documents
- Passport
- Valid visa
- Certificate of current residence issued by the competent authority
- 3 White 4×6 photos
- Medical Certificate
- Your valid foreign driver’s license
- Step 2 : You can apply for a driving test through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s driving license issuance online system’s website : https://driverlicense.mpwt.gov.kh or you can come to any of the MPWT’s service center, located at AEON Mall Phnom Penh (AEON 1), AEON Mall Sen Sok City (AEON 2), and all Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport offices.
Note : Vehicle under 125cc does not need a license - Step 3 : Fill out the application form and submit the required documents, including your foreign driver’s license.
- Step 4 : Pay the applicable fees for the license application and processing.
- Step 5 : Take a written exam covering Cambodian traffic rules and regulations. The exam is available in Khmer, English, and other languages.
- Step 6 : If you pass the written exam, schedule a road test appointment.
- Step 7 : Undergo the road test, which evaluates your driving skills an
d knowledge of Cambodian driving practices. - Step 8 : If you pass the road test, you will be issued a Cambodian driving license. The license is valid for 5 years.
Additional Tips for Foreigners
- The process is the same for Cambodian citizens, but you’ll need to provide your foreign license as proof of driving experience.
- The written exam and road test may be more challenging for foreigners, so it’s recommended to study the Cambodian traffic laws and regulations beforehand.
- You may be able to request a translator for the written exam and road test if you’re not proficient in Khmer.
- The fees for a foreign-issued license are typically higher than for Cambodian citizens.
