One of Asia’s most straightforward weather systems is a blessing for Cambodia. Despite having two distinct weather seasons, Cambodia is a year-round tourism destination. Due to Cambodia’s typically constant height and latitude, the entire country generally experiences the same weather patterns.
Dry (October to late April) and Wet (May to September) are the two separate seasons (May to late September). The last few dry months before the rainy season (March and April) and the first few months of the wet season (May and June) are typically the hottest of the year, with temperatures exceeding 35°C at times. There are variances in temperature within each season.
While the coldest months of the year tend to be between October and December, humidity is at its maximum around March and April. However, this is cool for Cambodia but far from chilly with typical temperatures hovering around 24°C to 26°C.
The Dry Season in Cambodia – October – April
The dry north-east monsoon, which is characterized by hot winds blowing over the entire country, arrives in April, ending the dry season in Cambodia, which runs from October to April. While the temperature is mild from November to January (high 20°C), by April it is hot and humid.
The Wet Season in Cambodia – May – October
The southwest monsoon is responsible for Cambodia’s rainy season, which lasts from May to October and brings with it almost 75% of the country’s yearly rainfall. In most parts of the rainy season, daily temperatures in Cambodia range between 25°C and 27°C. May through July, the beginning of the wet season, is still quite hot and only sometimes experience rain, most often in the form of brief downpours. Rainfall tends to increase in frequency and intensity in the latter months (late July to September), especially in rural and coastal areas.
