The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration will launch the ‘Walking Street’ on February 1, 2025. This pedestrian zone will stretch from the Cambodian Post Office to the Royal Palace. It will operate every Saturday and Sunday evening from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Governor Mr. Khuong Sreng announced this on January 29, 2025, with tourism representatives.
Mr. Khuong Sreng noted that planning began in 2019. The project faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has renewed efforts to attract tourists. He emphasized that the project will officially start on February 1, 2025.
The Walking Street will prohibit all vehicle traffic. Authorities will provide restrooms and organize the area for visitors. Before the launch, they will inform local residents about the project. They will ensure residents know that vehicles will not be allowed during operating hours.
